ROBERT J. (BJ) KOSSMAN
SHERBURNE – Robert J. (BJ) Kossman, Jr., 46, of Sherburne, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 17, 2014 at his home in Sherburne.
BJ was born on July 15, 1968 in Norwich the son of Robert J. and Waneta (French) Kossman Sr. He grew up in the Norwich area and attended the Norwich High School from which he graduated in 1986. Throughout his high school years BJ was a dedicated wrestler and attended several wrestling camps. He excelled at the sport and competed in many state tournaments on different occasions. Soon after his graduation BJ entered the United States Marines where he served his country for several years until his honorable discharge. He then returned home for a period of time before moving onto several areas of the country including Florida, South Carolina, California, New Jersey and New Orleans. While living in these areas BJ worked as a carpenter on construction jobs where he was known for his talents and his eye for perfection. BJ has resided in his home state of New York for the past 2 years.
BJ had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. He was quite a jokester and enjoyed telling stories and tall tales. A HUGE Giants fan, he would follow every game and could tell you anything about the team. He also enjoyed talking politics to anyone who would listen, liked grilling out doors, cooking whenever he had the chance and enjoyed a good game of golf.
BJ is survived by his parents Robert and Waneta Kossman, Sr.of So. Plymouth, his children Brock Kossman of Norwich, Robert and Tierney Marcantonio of Metuchen, NJ, his grandmother Millie French of Preston and his sister Daphne Dodge and companion Anthony Buell of Smyrna. Also surviving are his niece and nephew Brent and Courtney Dodge of Smyrna, his best friend Steve of Syracuse and his feline friend “Precious” along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service for BJ will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 2:00 pm from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. Te Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the North Norwich cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday, December 6, from 1-2 pm.
