DONALD J. COUGHLIN
SHERBURNE – Donald J. Coughlin, 65, of Furman Mills Rd., lifelong Sherburne resident, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born July 16, 1949 in North Norwich, a son of the late William and Marcia Hill Coughlin. He graduated from Sherburne Central School and the Eastern State Farrier School in Phoenix, NY. On March 13, 1971, Donald married Ellen Mae Truman in Smyrna. Don was a farrier/blacksmith for 40 years until his retirement. He was a breeder and exhibiter of Paint horses for most of his life.
Don was a life member of the American Paint Horse Assoc. having served as a National and Alternate Director; a member of the Empire State Paint Horse Club and past member of the Board of Directors; a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; and a member of the CNY Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation where he served on the Banquet Committee. He was an avid hunter and a life member of the American Hunting Assoc.; and a member of the National Rifle Assoc.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen; a daughter, Lori Ann Coughlin of Sherburne; sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Dale Dewey of Oxford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Julie Coughlin of Sherburne; Jesse and Dixie Miller of KY; sister-in-law and her husband, Janet and Raiford Pickerd of Newport. He was predeceased by two brothers, William R and Robert A. Coughlin; and a nephew, Andrew A. Pickerd.
Friends are invited to call from 11am to 2pm Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by a prayer service at 2pm.
Interment will be private in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
