RICHARD T. WOOD
SHERBURNE – Richard T. “Woody” Wood, 65, of Granville Hill Rd., passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born February 14, 1949 in Norwich, a son of Floyd and Dorothy Hackett Wood. He grew up in Oxford and was a graduate of the Oxford Academy in 1967. Woody was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, proudly serving his country from 1968 until 1971. On September 17, 1982, he married Diane Ruel in Sherburne. He worked as a splicer for Frontier Communications for 34 years until retiring. Woody’s favorite times were spent hunting, fishing and going to camp with his wife. He loved his dog, Eddie and his birds Gabby and Cracker. He enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan.
Surviving are his wife, Diane; his in-laws, Leo and Joyce LaChapelle of Sherburne; a son and daughter-in-law, Col. J.P. and Nicole Silverstein of Ft Leavenworth, KS; two granddaughters, Lacey and Addison; a sister, Sharon Potter and her companion, Jeff. Watson of Norwich; two nieces, Kimberly (John) Reed of Norwich and Stacey (Michael) Corteville of Greene.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2pm Monday, November 24, 2014 in St. Malachy’s Cemetery, School St., Sherburne.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Chenango County, 6160 County Rd., 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
