EDITH E. RAY
Edith E. Ray, 85, a life long area resident, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2014, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin.
Edith was born on April 30, 1929 in Norwich the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Sisson) Stockley. She grew up in the area and and attended the Norwich High School. On June 30, 1948 in Norwich she married George A. Ray Jr.who passed away March 16, 1991. Throughout her life Edith was a worker always striving to provide the best for her family. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and worked for several area restaurants including Fredís Inn, The Meadowview Restaurant, and the Driftwood Diner. Edith, along with her husband, operated the City Taxi Service in Norwich for several years and had cleaned homes for several area families. She also attended the North Norwich United Methodist Church on a regular basis.
Edith, known by others as ìMomî or ìGrandmaî was always putting her family first. She was a caring and loving person who put others first throughout her entire life. She enjoyed her fishing and camping which she did as often as possible.
Edith is survived by her chldren Joseph Ray and wife Pat of Sherburne, Larry Ray of Sherburne, Rosemary Bryant of North Norwich, Leah Adams also of North Norwich and Susan Fitzpatrick and husband James of Smyrna. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husbsband George, Edith was predeceased by her son-in-law David Bryant, her sister Betty Adams, her step brother Fayne Adams, one granddaughter Peggy Bevilacqua and a great granddaughter Kendra Pratt.
A funeral service for Edith will be held on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be in the South Brookfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7 pm.
