OLYMPIA, WA – Daniel M. Downey, 60, of Olympia, WA and a former resident of the Norwich area, passed away Saturday morning, November 8, 2014, in the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with family at his side.
Dan was born in Norwich on September 7, 1954 the son of Eugene and Dolores (Jones) Downey. He grew up in the Norwich and Sherburne area and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. During his high school years Dan was involved with the schools wrestling programs. Following his education he gained employment with GLA and it’s successor’s working with the company for many years. He eventually became skilled in the telecommunications area and worked for several area telecommunication company’s. Dan then moved to Texas where he continued in the communications area and eventually moved to the state of Washington where he had been employed by Boeing. He had made his home in Washington for the past 10-12 years.
Dan is survived by his mother Dolores (Dee) Dolgos of Norwich, his children Craig Downey and wife Whitney of Norwich, Brandon Downey of Oxford and Daniel Downey, Jr. of Nashville, TN, his granddaughter Natalie Downey, his sister Deborah Robinson of Norwich and his brother Eugene Downey and wife Melodie of Atlanta, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Dan was predeceased by his father Eugene Downey and grandchildren Meghan and Colin Downey.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
