Charles D. “chip” Heald, Jr.


NORWICH – Charles D. “Chip” Heald, Jr., 68, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, November 4, 2014, at home with his family by his side.
Chip was born on May 13, 1946 in Sidney the son of Charles and Jeanne (Williams) Heald, Sr. As a young man he lived with his family in various areas of the United States. On October 5, 1965 he enlisted into the United States Navy serving his country until his honorable discharge in October of 1971. While serving his country, Chip was the recipient of several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his discahrge, he came back to the Norwich area where he gained employment with the D&H Railroad and subsequently Conrail. He then worked for a period of time as a roofer and eventually gained employment with Sheffield Products where he worked for over 20 years.
In his liesure time, Chip enjoyed his camp on Black Lake where he and his family spent many enjoyable times. He also was an avid fisherman, enjoyed the St. Lawrence River area and was a collector of model trains.
On April 15, 1970 in Norwich, he married Norma Squires who survives.
Besides his wife Norma of Norwich, Chip is survived by his sons Brian Heald and wife Heidi of Sherburne, and Thomas Heald and wife Stephanie of Bradenton, FL, his sister Susan Smith and husband Cecil of Wells Bridge, NY, and his grandchildren Samantha, Dylan, Taylor, Cameron and Connor. Also surviving are his nieces Katrina Worden and husband Christopher, Nicole Ryan and finacee Kevin Woods, and Melissa Wikoff and husband Duane.
Chip was predeceased by an infant daughter Tonya.
Funeral services for Chip will be PRIVATE and at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Nancy Hale, Pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church of Norwich will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
