RICHARD H. (DICK) CARNRIKE SR
NORWICH – Richard H. (Dick) Carnrike Sr., 88, a life long Norwich resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, in the Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center after a brief stay.
Dick was born on November 9, 1925 in Norwich the son of Ralph M. and Clara S. (Mead) Carnrike. He spent his entire life in Norwich and was a 1944 graduate of the Norwich High Class where he was Captain of the 1943-44 basketball team. Following his education Dick entered the United States Army serving his country from September of 1944 until his honorable discharge in July of 1946. Throughout his life Dick was always very athletic and was known to be a “sports buff”. As his children were growing up he was the Little League Coach for their teams, was an avid golfer and bowled in several of the city bowling leagues.
Dick’s working career spanned many years where he was a partner in Collier Electric where he worked as an electrical contractor retiring in 1988.
On April 12, 1947 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church Dick married Patricia Collier who passed away on July 20, 1990.
Dick is survived by his children, Judith Sayko and husband John of Wallace, NC, Richard Carnrike Jr. and wife Deborah of Norwich, Teresa Carnrike of Cortland, Patricia Bonnell and husband Dewey of Norwich, Karen Porto and husband Gary of Califon, NJ, Andrew Carnrike and wife Ruby of Coral Springs, FL and Theodore Carnrike and wife Melissa of Holtwood, PA. Also surviving are his brother George Carnrike and wife Alice of Norwich, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Pat, Dick was predeceased by a great grandson Andrew D. Plaisted, a sister Alice Wright and his brothers Ralph, Robert and Albert Carnrike.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be held on Monday, October. 20, at 10 a.m. from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
