LOIS McAVEIGH
NORWICH – Lois H. McAveigh, 76, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Chenango Memorial Hospital with family by her side.
Born December 19, 1937, in Tupper Lake, NY, Lois was the daughter of Hamor and Harriet (Brown) Houghton. Lois was the seventh of nine children and the last survivor of her siblings. She graduated from Long Lake High School with the Class of 1955. After high school, she worked for a time as a telephone operator for C & U Telephone Co., currently Frontier Communications. Lois then worked in the accounts payable department of Chenango Memorial Hospital for 20 years, and finally as a salesperson for Skillin’s Jewelers on North Broad Street.
On September 2, 1956, in Long Lake, NY, Lois married Lanny McAveigh, who survives. She is also survived by her children Martin H. McAveigh and Karen K. Page, and her husband, Donald, all of Norwich; grandchildren Kirsten Page, of Norwich, Sarah Russell, and her husband, Robert, of Virginia, and Justin Page, and his wife, Monet, also of Virginia; and four great-grandchildren.
Lois was a very active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, and regularly attended the United Methodist Women’s luncheons. She loved to read, enjoyed bowling and traveling, and spoke fondly of her travels to Colorado, Canada and Maine. Lois took pleasure in spending time with friends, and as a devoted wife, mother and aunt, especially loved the many gatherings of her family.
A memorial service for Lois will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the Broad Street United Methodist Church where Rev. Nancy Hale, pastor, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Broad Street United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
