Harold Arthur Bellinger

HAROLD ARTHUR BELLINGER
GLEN MILLS, PA – Harold Arthur Bellinger, 94, passed away August 23, 2014, at his daughter’s home in Glen Mills, PA. He was born 1n 1920 in North Norwich, New York, to Arthur and Sarah Bellinger. Harold grew up in North Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in 1938. In 1942 he married Marie Stackhouse and was happily married for 72 years. During World War II Harold served in the California Coast Artillery and in the Philippines as a staff sergeant and sharpshooter. After his discharge from the army, he worked for the Norwich Pharmaceutical Company for 43 years. He retired in 1982 as the Utility Supervisor. He then resided in Ocala, Florida until 2010.
Harold and his wife loved to travel. They visited Mexico, Canada, New Zealand and Europe. They also cruised the Caribbean, Panama, Costa Rico and the Mediterranean. Camping in all 49 states was especially enjoyable to them and flying to Hawaii allowed them to remark on visiting all 50 states. In his life time, Harold built his own home in North Norwich, his daughter’s home in PA, his lake home at Hatch Lake near West Eaton, New York. He also built a kayak in his adolescence, and two motor boats as an adult. His family depended on him to “fix” anything that was broken or stopped working. His talent with cars and all things mechanical was remarkable and the family saying was that all he had to do was rub his thumb over anything to make it work.
Harold is survived by his wife, Marie, of Glen Mills, PA, his daughters, Shirley Sastry, of Sacramento, CA, and Marion Saluja of Glen Mills, PA, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Harold lost his sister, Genevieve, who was 19, when they were involved in an automobile accident that almost claimed his life when he was eleven.
A funeral service will be held grave side at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich, NY, on 8/31/14 at 1 p.m.
