Dorothy Lindsey


NORWICH – Dorothy K. Lindsey, 95, of CMH Residential Care, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born June 23, 1914 in Sherburne, Dorothy was the daughter of Edgar R. and Rose (Bodley) Kenyon. She lived her whole life in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1931. After working for the Norwich Pharmacal Company for a short time, she was a secretary for the Chenango Savings and Loan Company for several years.
A long time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Dorothy also taught church school for many years. She was a life member of the Chenango County Historical Society and the Norwich Chapter of the Home Bureau for over twenty-five years. She held several offices in the Home Bureau and taught craft classes. Dorothy was a former Girl Scout Leader and member of the Red Cross. She loved quilting and participated in many quilting groups.
On July 30, 1938, in Emmanuel Church, Dorothy married LaVerne J. Lindsey who died in 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Elise O’Reilly of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandsons, Eric, David and Sean (Cammie); two great granddaughters, Heather and Jennifer O’Reilly; three nieces, Janet Burrell, Mary Teague Beck and Betty Crandall as well as a nephew, William Kenyon. Several cousins also survive.  Dorothy was predeceased by two brothers, Theodore and Nelson Kenyon and a sister, Mary Patterson.
Graveside services for Dorothy will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 in Mt. Hope Cemetery. 
Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Memorial Fund of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
