NORTH NORWICH – John A. Myers, Jr., 86, a longtime North Norwich resident and former Town of North Norwich Justice of the Peace, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 17, 2014, in the New York State Veterans Home of Oxford where he has made his home for the past several years.
John was born on May 24, 1928 in Utica the son of John and Elizabeth (Day) Myers Sr. He grew up in the Norwich area where he attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and graduated from the Norwich High School in 1946. Following his education, John entered the United States Air Force serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1953. He returned home and gained employment with the Norwich Pharmacal Co until 1968. He then went to work for the W.T. Grant Co in Norwich for several years. John also served for over 20 years as the Town of North Norwich Justice of the Peace. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
On Oct. 31, 1959 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church he married Jean Parr.
John will be remembered by his children as a wonderful dad.
John is survived by his children James Myers of Cooperstown, Janice Yerton of Sherburne and Jennifer Tibbens and husband Bernie of Sherburne and the mother of his children Jean Myers of Norwich. Also surviving is his sister Isabel Call of Norwich, brother Oswald Myers and wife Arietta of So. Otselic and his grandchildren Molly Jean Myers, Cameron Yerton and Jesse J. Yerton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Private services for John will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
