Nancy Garofalo


NORWICH – Nancy Mary Garofalo, 90, life long Norwich resident, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 2009 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in April of 1919 in Norwich, Nancy was the daughter of Joseph and Rose Taranto Garofalo. She was educated in the Norwich schools and remained in Norwich her entire life, making her home with her sister Grace. Nancy had worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill and its successor Champion Products for 45 years. Devoted to her Catholic faith, Nancy was a life long and active member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Reparation Society as well as the Rosary Society. A good hearted and kind person, Nancy enjoyed helping her neighbors by running errands or getting their groceries. Over the years she had also volunteered at the food pantry of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and craft work.
Nancy is survived by her sisters: Grace Garofalo, Josephine Jones, Phyllis Levesque and Joan Smith, all of Norwich. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Forester and Angelina DeLucia, and her brothers, George and John Garofalo.
A Mass of Resurrection for Nancy will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at St. Bartholomew’s Church on Wednesday morning from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at which time the Rosary will be recited.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
