MARY HOUGHTALING
OXFORD – Mary Frances Sands Houghtaling, 69 of Oxford passed away on July 29, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on January 20, 1945 in Utica, NY a daughter of the late Thomas and Clara (Bernholz) Sands. On February 16, 1963 she married William G. Houghtaling, who passed away on February 9, 1993.
She is survived by her children, Tamara and Steve Watson, Kimberly and George Graw, Rebecca and Robert Hughes, William J. and Jennifer Houghtaling and Rory and Elisabeth Houghtaling; her grandchildren, Shelby Watson, Gabriel Watson, Stephanie Hughes, Andrew Jenkins, Cody Maricle, Roxanne Redmond, and Deanna and Jessica Houghtaling; her great grandchildren, Dylan Kittridge, Alex Jenkins, Cameron Redmond and Talon Fritschler; her brothers, Dennis Sands and Russel Sands and her sister, Elizabeth Lamphere; many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family including Margaret Carey, Wayne Eldred and Cory Shaw.
Mary was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School, Class of 1962. She served as Town Clerk for the Town of Oxford for many years. Mary was an avid reader of many different authored book and loved caring for her flowers. She also enjoyed scrap booking and card making.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY with Rev. Ralph Bove officiating.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815. Friends and family may share their memories and condolences by visiting www.behefuneralhome.com.
