RICHARD B. McGOWAN
OXFORD – After a three year battle with cancer, Richard B. McGowan, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
He was predeceased by his father, Bernard McGowan, and by brother, Perry McGowan. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy McGowan, Norwich; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Kara McGowan, Egan, Mn., grandsons, Aidan and Riley McGowan; mother, Margaret Doolittle, Oxford: brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Sharon McGowan, Oxford. Richard is also survived by the love of his life Maxine Fahrenz, Harpursville, and all of her family and many friends; mother of his children, Sylvia Bates, Norwich, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Since the age of 16, Richard raised pigs and enjoyed the socialization that accompanied it. He enjoyed country music and square dancing, motorcycles, farming, and making trips with his motor home. He loved his new garage and tractors.
In 2003, Richard retired from Raymond Corporation after 38 years of service.
The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. Johnathan Kloss and his staff at Lourdes Oncology, Dr. Michael Fallan and his staff at Lourdes Radiology, and also the doctors, nurses, and aides on 1 Ross at Lourdes Hospital. Each and every one of you did a great job providing Richard with excellent care. Thanks again.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Root Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian King, of West Windsor Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends of the family may call Wednesday 11 AM until the time of service at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene NY, 13778. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the America Cancer Society or to charity of one’s choice.
