ROBERT EDWARD PLACE
OXFORD – Robert Edward Place, 84, Oxford, passed away peacefully in his Oxford home July 10, 2014. He was born March 10, 1930 son of the late Oliver and Nellie Place of Oxford. He was also predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Elizabeth Conpropst, and by his and siblings.
He is survived by his 12 children, Richard and Martha Place, Oxford, Roberta Ryan, Boonville, Tredwell and Mary Place, Norwich, Patricia McNight, Goshen, Indiana, Michael and Renee Place, Oxford, Oliver Place, Oxford, Linda Place, Oxford, Edward Place and Emily Bahn, Oxford, Kathy Mullen, Oxford, Connie Place and Ken Kenville, Hubbardsville, Karen and Terry Norden, Napoleon, Ohio, Jennifer and Timothy Davis, Oxford; 26 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert graduated from Oxford Academy in June 1947 with a vocational agriculture diploma.
Robert spent his life building a large farming operation in the town of Oxford with his family. Robert enjoyed farm life, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Lake Ludlow Club for many years. In his later years he enjoyed carpentry, gardening and his family. He will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday at Root Funeral Home with Rev. Amy Gregory officiating. Friends of the family may call Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Oxford Memorial Library PO Box 552, Oxford, NY 13830. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
