ANNUNZIATA D. (NANCY) NEWKIRK
NORWICH – Annunziata D. (Nancy) Newkirk, 69, a life long Norwich resident and well known area hair stylist, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 1, 2014, in the Community General Hospital of Syracuse.
Nancy was born in Norwich on April 30, 1945 the daughter of David and Annunziata (Magistro) Dain. Due to the untimely death of her mother, she was raised by her “adoptive parents” Mary and Angelo Annesi. She was a 1963 graduate of the Norwich High School and furthered her education by attending beauty school in Binghamton. Upon receiving her beauticians license and at the early age of 20, Nancy began a life long career as a hair stylist. She began by working for several area shops before opening her own business known as Annunziata’s Beauty Shop. Nancy built a wonderful clientel over the years and was especially fond of her elderly clients, many of whom she had taken care of all of their lives. She also had worked at the Valley View Manor and Chenango Valley Home doing hair for clients who were unable to get out. Her career spanned a period of 43 years until her health forced retirement.
Nancy’s family always came first. She was a great homemaker which brought out her second talent, that of a great cook. Her “Italian Feasts” and dishes were the envy of many and left no one hungry. In her spare time she enjoyed the company and going around with her cousins Nan Magistro, Elaine Burton and Mary Neadom.
On Nov. 22, 1980, in Norwich, she married Wayne Newkirk who survvies.
Besides her husband Wayne, Nancy is survived by her children; Stephanie R. Lane of Methuen, MA, David Archambo of Norwich, Matthew Archambo of Jacksonville, FL, her step-son Gregory A. Newkirk and wife Carrie of Marathon and her brother Gerry Annesi of Macedon, NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren Maxwell and Jillian Lane of Methuen, MA, Anjelica Newman and husband John of Greensboro, NC, Kirstianna Archambo of Raleigh, NC, Angelo Archambo of Mebane, NC, Jared Archambo of Jacksonville, FL and her great grandson Blake Newman. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and her cannine friend Shilo also survive.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents David and Annunziata, her “adoptive parents” Mary and Angelo and her step-daughter Amy Lynn Newkirk.
Funeral services for Nancy will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 12:00 Noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Smith of St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church of Sherburne will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at Noon.
