Virginia Wierzbicki


Virginia M. Wierzbicki, 75, of Norwich, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown after suffering a severe stroke.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 11, 1939, Virginia was the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Harrington) Faye. She graduated from St. Brendan’s High School in Brooklyn and then worked at the Equitable Life Insurance Company where she met her husband, Frank Wierzbicki, whom she married on June 6, 1959 in Good Shepherd Church in Brooklyn. Together, they moved to Norwich in 1993 where they enjoyed retirement. In September of 2011 she was the recipient of a liver transplant after being diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease. After the surgery she was able to enjoy her love for travel, family and the arts with great passion. She had just recently returned from a trip to Bermuda for the first time since her honeymoon to celebrate her 55th wedding anniversary
Virginia was a member of St. Paul’s Church, the Garden Clubs of both Norwich and Oxford, the Butternut Valley Arts & Crafts Center, the Norwich Home Bureau and of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), an organization that espouses “Women helping women reach for the stars.”
In addition to her husband, Frank, of Norwich, she is also survived by her children and their spouses, Lisa and Bill Johnson of Edmeston and Chris and Allison Wierzbicki of New York City as well as four grandchildren, David, Rebecca and Daniel Johnson and Christopher Buonincontri.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at St. Paul’s Church. Burial will be at a later date in New York City. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 – 6 p.m.
