Claudia Ann (butch) Johnson


NORWICH – Claudia Ann (Butch) Johnson, 74, of Norwich, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Claudia was born on Oct. 15, 1939 in Albany the daughter of Kenneth and Julia (Patterson) Munyan. She grew up in Oxford where she attended the Oxford school from which she graduated in 1958. On Dec. 19, 1959 in Oxford she married James E. Johnson who passed away Feb. 6, 2008. Over the years Claudia and her family had made their home in several areas of New York State. While living in Norwich, she had been employed by Champion, NorTogs, the NYS Veterans Home and CWS.
Claudia will be remembered as a caring and giving person who did the best she could for her family. It was mentioned by her children that she had 9 lives which she used over the years in caring for all of them. She was a great fan of any type of car racing, be it dirt, NASCAR or stock cars. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, reading, knitting and crocheting.
Claudia is survived by her children; James Johnson Jr. and wife Sherry of Edmeston, Scott Johnson and wife Mary of Norwich, Penny Rifanburg and husband Bruce of Norwich, Terry Johnson and wife Denise of Earlville, Wayne Johnson and wife Diana of Sherburne, Wendy Johnson of Norwich, Ginger Himko and husband Richard of Bainbridge, Rusty Johnson and wife Melisa of Smyrna and Vicky Bennett and husband Robert of Altoona, FL. Also surviving are her 21 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service for Claudia will be held on Monday, June 23, at 12:00 Noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Very Rev. Charles Taylor, Episcopal Clergy, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Noon.
