Patricia Carpenter


Patricia A. (“Pickle”) Carpenter, 78, of North Main Street, Sherburne, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 following a brief illness.
Born on September 15, 1935, in Malone, New York, Patricia was the daughter of Clayton and Veronica (Capstraw) Muller. After completing her GED, she studied for and began a career in nursing. In 1981, in Norwich, Patricia married her husband, Gary Carpenter, who survives.
Patricia was a dedicated homemaker and spouse to her family, and “everything she touched, she turned beautiful.” She also worked for a time as a homecare aide for Dr. McLeod in Norwich.
Patricia was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, having made many blankets over the years for her friends and family. She also was an excellent cook, placing time into every meal recipe, including her amazing spaghetti sauce. Her family considers her, “The best cook ever.” Patricia loved to find bargains at the local Dollar Store and garage sales, and also collected dolls and small, porcelain shoes.
Patricia is survived by her children, Cynthia D’Amour (Jacques), Shirley Skidmore (Joseph), each of Calahan, CO, Ralph Prevost, of San Antonio, TX, Greg Carpenter, of PA, Paul Prevost (Kim), of Clifton Park, NY, and Rusty Carpenter (April), of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters also survive. She was predeceased by son Steven Prevost and several siblings.
Funeral services for Patricia will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Wilson Funeral Home, where Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor, United Church of Christ, First Congregational, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at St. Malachy’s Cemetery in Sherburne.
