Phyllis R. Law


Phyllis R. Law, 72, of Norwich, passed away early Friday morning, June 13, 2104, at home with family by her side following a short illness.
Phyllis was born on March 4, 1942 the daughter of Robert David and Daisy Eva (Carpenter) Mathewson of Plymouth. She graduated from the Norwich Central School in 1960 and furthered her education by earning a college degree as a Laboratory Technician. On May 13, 1961 she married Edward W. Law of Smyrna, her husband of 53 years. Over the years she had been employed by the Sidney Hospital, Sheffield, Victory Markets, The Evening Sun, NBT Bank, Quickway and many other employers through Account Temps. Marilyn was a multi talented lady who loved to crochet, knit, read, do needlepoint, sew, do canning, play bingo or watch a movie with her brother Mike. She always cared about others and would always reach out to help anyone with a need and always worried about others before herself.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Edward of Norwich, her children Jeannette (Jeffrey) Utter of South New Berlin, William (Heather) Law of Walton and Steven Law of Norwich, her grandchildren whom she adored April, Heidi, Melanie, Melissa, Derek, Jennifer, Allison and Chelsea. Also surviving are her 9 great grandchildren with 2 on the way this summer, her siblings David (Beth) Mathewson and Joan Sumpter all of Kansas, Robert Michael Mathewson of Norwich and Kathy (Wayne) Rogers of Greene. Many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. She also leaves behind her faithful companion Sparky.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her. She was very family oriented and believed they always came first. Her love, devotion, commitment, strength and character will be missed by many.
At the families request there will be no formal calling hours or funeral service.
The family wishes to thank all those who called, stopped by, brought food and showed acts of kindness. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Valerie Bates, Diane Evans-Meeds and Diane Spink for your compassion and care shown to our loved one and your support to our family.
