THELMA TUCKER
NORWICH – Thelma Marie Griffin Tucker, 85, of Syracuse and most recently of Norwich, passed away Saturday morning, May 24, 2014, at the Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center following a short illness.
Thelma was born in Norwich on May 28, 1928 the daughter of William and Barbara (Blake) Griffin. She grew up in Norwich and was a 1946 graduate of the Norwich High School. She furthered her education by attending Ridley-Lowell Business Institute in Binghamton. In her early working career she was employed by Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical Co. On July 15, 1950 in St. Paul’s Church she married Robert Tucker. In 1958 they moved to Syracuse where Thelma became a full time mother and homemaker. She eventually became employed by Upstate Medical Center working in the administration offices for a period of fifteen years. Following the death of her husband in 1985, Thelma remained in the Syracuse area until moving back to Norwich several months ago.
Thelma’s family meant everything to her. She enjoyed fun times with her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved to travel and had taken many trips throughout the years.
Thelma is survived by her daughters; Barbara Duffy and husband William of Bel Air, MD, Mary Ann DeMellier and husband Mark of Norwich and Christine Tucker of Stockholm, Sweden and her grandchildren Mark and Katherine Duffy, Sarah, Robert and Molly DeMellier and Hannah Tucker. Several cousins also survive.
Besides her husband Robert, Thelma was predeceased by a sister Rita Griffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Thelma will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 10:00 am from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor, will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 30 Pleasant St., Norwich, NY 13815 or to the Chenango County SPCA, County Rt. 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
