Betty Jean Scott


Betty Jean Scott, 86, of Oxford, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014, at home with her family by her side.
Betty was born in Norwich on December 16, 1927 the daughter of Leland and Fannie (Brezee) Brookins. She attended the Norwich schools and was a 1945 graduate of the Norwich High School. Over the years Betty had worked for Winans Mens Shop and Matthews Clothing Store. In 1968 she and her husband Ken purchased the Brown Ave. Bowing Center which they operated together for 15 years.
Betty was a very vivacious and funny lady who always enjoyed a good time. Over the years she had bowled in many of the women’s leagues and was a member of the Norwich Womens Bowling Hall of Fame. In addition to her bowling, she enjoyed a good round of golf and always had a good time with her lady friends rollerskating in Oneonta.
On July 21, 1945 in Norwich she married Kenneth Scott.
Betty is survived by her husband Ken of Oxford, her son Jeffrey Scott and husband John Scott of New York City and her daughter Deidra Scott Paige of Norwich, her grandchildren Melinda Wehrli of Norwich and Corey Foote of Cocoa Beach, FL and her great grandsons Chandler and Alexander.
Betty was predeceased by her sister Ruth, her mother Fannie Adams and step-father LeRoy Adams.
Funeral services for Betty will be held on Tuesday, May 27, at noon from the R.J..Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis McKenna, Pastor of the Norwich Assembly of God Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
