MARGARET E. SMITH
NORWICH – Margaret E. Smith, 72, of Norwich, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2014, in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Margaret was born in New Berlin, NY on Nov. 19, 1941 the daughter of Arnold and Sarah (Larabee) Maxson. She has spent her entire life in the Chenango County area where she attended the local schools. Over the years Margaret has worked for Champion Products, the Bluebird, Mirabito Fuel Group and also did domestic work for several area families.
On Dec. 6, 1957 she married Norman Smith who passed away in 1989.
Margaret is survived by her son Daniel Benedict and wife Wendy of Norwich, sisters Patricia Benjamin and husband Richard of Burlington, Joyce Ray of Schuyler Lake, her half sister Anne Tice of Waterville, her brothers David Maxson and wife Jean of Holmesville, Arnold Maxson and wife Cindy of Woodstock and her sister-in-law Evelyn Maxson. Also surviving are her grandchildren Daniel Benedict Jr., Bradley Davis, David Davis, Curtis Wright, step-grandson Dustin Conkey, great grandchildren Ransom Conkey and Marlea Eiholzer and great granddaughter Lexi Davis.
Besides her husband Norman, Margaret was predeceased by her brothers Donald and Fred Maxson and a great grandson Dallas Benedict.
Memorial services for Margaret will be held on Friday, May 23, at 4 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Matt Frayer of the Bible Baptist Church of Norwich will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
