MARY SANTA ANNESI
NORWICH – Much loved and respected lifetime resident of Norwich Mary Santa Annesi, 102, went to be with God and her husband, Angelo, and her family and dear friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at her home, as she requested.
She was born Maria Santa Magistro to Angelo Magistro and Nunziata Saltamachia Magistro on November 1, 1911 on All Saints Day. Thus, the middle name Santa.
On October 8, 1932, she married Angelo M. Annesi who predeceased her on December 20, 1971.
In the early years, Mary went to work for the Norwich Knitting Mill as a seamstress. She then went to work for the Norwich Pharmacal Company in the saccharin department. She babysat for children over the years.
She did a lot for her church, St. Bartholomew’s. She helped her best friend, Marion Funaro, clean the church altar. She worked at many spaghetti suppers, rummage sales, baked and worked at bake sales. She worked at many Red Cross bloodmobiles. She was a lifetime member of the Ave Maria, Lady of Fatima, past Pocahontas, past president of Royal Neighbors of America, Miraculous Medal, Golden Agers and AARP. For years, she and her neighbors held “Block Rosary” on Mondays, alternating houses every week.
She is survived by her children Gennaro M. Annesi, Anita Mikkonen and Annunziata D. Newkirk; her brother, Anthony J. Magistro, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by sisters Rose Lorimer and Nanziato Dain, brothers Janerine, Charles, Joseph, Angelo, and James Magistro and loving neighbors, Teresa Bucalo and David Diefenbacher.
She enjoyed her garden and crocheting.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 22, 2014 (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew’s. Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwich. Arrangements made by Landers Funeral Directors.
