Joan V. Clarkson


Joan V. Clarkson, 71, of McDonough passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her daughters home in Norwich. Joan was born July 16, 1942, daughter of the late Fred and Genieve (Brown) Smith in McDonough.
Joan was a lifelong resident of the area and attended school in Norwich. On February 14, 1962 Joan married Harold K. Clarkson Jr. in McDonough, he predeceased her on December 20, 2012. Joan worked for many years in the area, most recently at Walmart and later as a Store Manager at Payless in Norwich.
Those who knew Joan, will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Joan was a very kindhearted woman, who was devoted to her family, albeit she had a strong and sassy personality, Joan never held back and wasn’t afraid to speak what was on her mind. Joan was artistic, she enjoyed doing crafts, loved to dance and listen to music. Joan loved to cook and enjoy a good meal. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.
Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Clayton Brown of Norwich, sons and daughters-in-law, Harold III and Raelinn Clarkson of McDonough, Terry and Sonya Clarkson of Norwich, sister, Jane Owens of Painted Post, grandchildren, Joshua, Kelly, Amber, Harold IV, DJ, Dominick, Vinny, Austin and Alexis, great grandchildren, Sara, Shad, Kyra and Kaleb, a niece Tracy, a nephew Casey close friends, Dorothy Manwarren, Cheryl Manning and her 3 furry children, Sparky, Sassy and Snuggles. She was predeceased by her brother Rodney Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 6 pm at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Penny Brown, 346 Gibbon Rd. Norwich, NY 13815.
