C. GERTRUDE ANDREWS
SHERBURNE – C. Gertrude “Gertie” Andrews, 91, formerly of East State St., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
She was born December 5, 1922 in Smyrna, one of six children of Herbert and Inez Barr Eccleston and received her early education in Smyrna school and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. On May 6, 1946, she married Jean Spurr Andrews who predeceased her in 1978. Gertie was a #1 farmer’s wife who loved to waltz with her husband. They lived in Columbus and later moved to the Shawler Brook Farm. They settled on the Andrews Farm in Columbus which was passed down through seven generations of the family. She was an amazing cook who whose macaroni and tomato dish was a favorite among the family. She was a talented quilter who made over 40 quilts for family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished the times spent with her children and grandchildren. She is loved!
Gertie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne, and the United Methodist Women. For many years, she participated in the UMW Bake Sale where she was famous for her baked beans and pies, and was in charge of the pie table for many years at the bake sale and the Chicken & Bisquit dinners. She was a former member of the Columbus Community Church where she had served on the Board of Directors; and a former member of the Home Bureau.
Surviving are her children, Holly Andrews and Michael Andrews, both of Sherburne, and Jane and Bruce Peterson of McDonough; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by all of her siblings and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, April 17, 2014 from the First United Methodist Church, Sherburne.
Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
