Inez Young


OXFORD – Inez Hollenbeck Young, 94 formerly of Bainbridge, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford. 
Inez was born on April 21, 1915, daughter of the late Frank and Neah (Cowles) Hollenbeck in Greene. She attended school in Greene, graduating in 1932. She then studied nursing at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1936. Holly worked at Wilson Memorial until World War II, when she became Industrial Nurse at Scintilla (Amphenol) until her retirement in 1977. During that time, she served as Secretary of the Industrial Nurses Association for many years. 
On July 24, 1949, Inez married Owen “Bud” Young in Sidney.  He predeceased her on June 13, 1990. She was also predeceased by her brother C.DeNeil Hollenbeck, and her sisters Mary Hill and Ruth Fowlston. Her sister Lois Gould of Delhi passed away only a few hours before Inez. Holly enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to many places, both within the United States, and around the world.  She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney, its Dorcas  Class, the Sidney Historical Society and the Ladies Auxiliary of the BPOE of Sidney. Inez was also very enthusiastic about the Space Program; writing many letters of congratulations to astronauts, even receiving personal responses from some. She was loving, generous, thoughtful, caring and was deeply loved and greatly respected by all who knew her.
Holly is survived by loving nieces and nephews: Robert Fowlston (Norwich), William and Bridget Fowlston (Oxford), Jeanette Race Biermann (Oxford), Richard and Esther Fowlston (Oxford), Joan Walling (Las Vegas), David and Linda Fowlston (Greene), George and Bianca Hill of Maryland, James and Elaine Hill (Johnson City), Donald and Gail Gould (Indiana), Diane and Richard Lutz (Bloomville) and Charles and Barbara Gould of Maryland; many great nieces and nephews; numerous  great-great nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her two step-daughters, Diana and Willis Lutz of Bloomville and Linda and Richard Stuver of Paradise, Pa., and their children and grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty St., Sidney.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Benjamin Shaw officiating.  Burial will take place at Warn Ten Broeck Cemetery, Oxford. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty St., Sidney, NY 13838 or to the Sidney Historical Society, PO Box 2217 Sidney, NY 13838.
