Steven Magistro


NORWICH – Steven C. Magistro, 45, of Locust St., Norwich, passed away early Monday morning, Sept. 25, 2006 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The son of Janet Depew Magistro and the late Angelo “Buff” Magistro, Steven was born on May 6, 1961, in Norwich, and graduated from Norwich High School in 1979. He then attended SUNY Morrisville, majoring in Business - Education, and continued on to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla., majoring in Deaf Education - Business. Over the years, Steven used his education to care for the mentally retarded and Down Syndrome children in the Association for the Developmentally Disabled in Columbus, Ohio; Pathfinder Village in Edmeston; the Duval Assoc. for Retarded Children in Jacksonville, Fla.; and Sullivan Co. Assoc. for Retarded Citizens in So. Fallsburg, N.Y. His last employment was with the NYS Assoc. for Retarded Children in Binghamton, where he was a release house parent. Steven was a caring person who was a natural caregiver and related well to those in his charge.
Steven is survived by his mother, Janet Magistro of Norwich; by his brothers: Michael Magistro, Norwich, Mark Magistro, Oswego, David Dyer, Gainesville, Fla., Robert Dyer of Ontario, N.Y., and Craig Dyer of New Berlin; and by his aunts and uncles: Anthony and Ellen Magistro of Norwich, Donalda Jean Chase of Beaver Meadow, and Charles and Ellen Depew of Georgetown. He is also survived by his niece, Danelle Magistro and her daughter Margo of Norwich, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Steven’s request, there will be no formal funeral service or calling hours.
Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery will be at the convenience of his family.
Those wishing to remember Steven with a memorial contribution are asked to contribute toward the cost of his cemetery stone, with donations to be sent to Janet Magistro, 54 Locust St., Norwich, NY 13815.
