GEORGE KAUFINGER
DAVENPORT, FL - Reverend George Kaufinger, 80, formerly of Guilford, NY and Lakeland, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 due to cancer.
Born and raised in Guilford, NY, George was the son of George and Ruth Kaufinger. He graduated from Guilford Central Schools with the Class of 1951, and attended Albany Business College. George graduated with a two-year business degree in 1953, and worked for many years at several banks, beginning at the Norwich Bank & Trust Co. (now NBT Bank).
In 1990, George and his wife, Loretta Kaufinger, who survives, moved to Florida, where George eventually retired and became an ordained minister. He was the pastor of several churches, enjoyed evangelistic work and did extensive traveling with numerous cruise lines on which he practiced his ministry. Rev. Kaufinger was also the author of several books, including “A Gardener Weeds God’s Creation” and “Wealth of a Nation.”
In addition to his wife of 58 years, George is survived by his son, Dr. Gregory Kaufinger, of Anderson, IN; daughter, Sabrina Olsa, of Santa Rosa, CA; sister, Ruth Seeber, of Clifton Park, NY; and grandchildren, Jason, Alex, Philip and Anna. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Kaufinger McCune.
A memorial service for George was held at Green Pond Baptist Church in Polk City, FL, on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Burial will take place in the summer at North Guilford Cemetery, NY.
