ROBERT MINER
NORWICH – Robert Edson Miner (Bob), 88, of Norwich, NY passed away on March 26, 2014.
Bob was born on December 15, 1925 to the late James Douglas & Ferol Beverly Miner.
Bob served in World War II in the United States Navy from September 1943 to April 1946 as a Radioman Third Class on the Destroyer U.S.S. McCall. He was in the invasion of the Philippines. He was also known for being part of the famous rescue on the island of Guam which was occupied by the Japanese. George Tweed was hiding from the Japanese and was able to signal the McCall which then rescued him. George kept in contact with Bob until he passed away.
After Bob was honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for NYSEG in 1947 as a clerk, a layout man, electric field planner, then promoted to Chief Store Keeper in 1972. Bob retired from NYSEG on January 1st 1985.
Bob married Eleanor Spicer on April 18, 1946 and they had four children, Lance, Christopher, Timothy and Lisa Miner.
Bob is survived & deeply loved by wife Eleanor Miner of 67 years; children Lance & Deb Miner, Christopher & Dianna Miner, Lisa Miner & Andy Pratt, deceased son Timothy David Miner; grandcildren Zachary Miner & Jessica Benelli, Ewen & Jennifer Kelly, Michael & Kyle Miner, Christopher & Benjamin Miner, Ferol & Ryan Riddle and Mia Stevens and great grandchildren Brianne Miner, Timothy Robert Miner and Sadie Riddle.
Bob was known for his witty sense of humor, his wealth of knowledge and his unconditional love for his family.
At Bob’s request there will be no formal services and interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
