HARRY CHARLES JR.
NORWICH – Harry Charles Jr, of Norwich, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford NY on Friday, March 28th 2014. He was born in Norwich NY July 20, 1932 to Harry & Florence Charles and graduated from Norwich High School Class of 1950. Harry then served in the United States Air force from 1952 – 1956. He married Janice Marie Jones in 1953 who predeceased him in 1994.
Harry was manager and Vice President at Briggs Lumber Company and Lloyds Home and Building Supply for 32 years retiring in 1988. After retiring Harry and Jan moved to Clinton NY to become Resident Manager of the Clinton House Apartment Complex. After 15 yrs there and the death of Janice, Harry moved back to Norwich until he became ill in August 2013 and became a resident at the NYS Vets Home.
Harry was a member of the Oxford Fire Dept. for 50 Years, Village of Oxford Trustee for 8 years and served on the Chenango County Fair Board for 12 years. In recent years he worked in the Chenango County Court System as a court attendant opening court for Judge Sullivan and Judge Dowd.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Janice, brothers Donald, James, Fred (Bob), Russell John Charles, sisters Beatrice Lawrence and Dorothy Winner.
Harry is survived by Brother Richard of Oxford NY, Sons Arthur & Dee Dee of Port Crane NY, Michael & Lita of Norwich, Grandchildren Heather & (Billy), Jeff & (Bess), Benjamin, Christopher & (Sarah), Lindsay & (Derek), Chelsea & (Matt) and Betti Ann also 6 Great Grandchildren and long time companion Pat Smith.
Harry’s family will receive friends at the RJ Fahy Funeral Home 116 North Broad St. Norwich NY 13815 on Tuesday April 1st from 5 – 7 p.m., with a funeral service to follow. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.

The family would like to thank the NYS Veterans Home for the Wonderful care he received while residing there.
Arrangements were through the RJ Fahy Funeral Home.
