ROBERT E. COLLAR
SHERBURNE – Robert E. “Bob” Collar, 76, of Sherburne passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
He was born July 2, 1937 in Milford, NY, a son of Orlie and Laura Harrington Collar. He was raised in the Milford/Laurens area, receiving his education in Milford schools. Bob worked for the Chenango County Highway Department, and then for Sheffield in Norwich. He left there to build his own business in Sherburne known as Collar’s Garage, a used car and towing service, which he operated for over 40 years until he retired in 2009. Bob was devoted to and loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and camping. He loved fishing and a good game of cards, as well as his daily trips to the coffee shops with the guys.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie Calvert Collar, and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley. Also surviving are his children, Robert Collar of King, NC; Laurie and Tom Absher of Smyrna; Marsha and Greg Young of Hickory, NC; Lesa and Richard Angle of Plymouth; and Loretta Milton of Sherburne; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Benjamin, Howard, Orlie (Pete) and Rodger; and a sister, Betty Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm Friday, March 28, 2014 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be at a later date in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4pm.
