Werner Oehme


Werner M. Oehme, 90, of Norwich, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home.
Born in Dresden, Germany on April 11, 1923, Werner was the son of Kurt and Meta (Kunz) Oehme. His family immigrated to the United States when Werner was young and he eventually served with the U.S. Army during World War II where he was injured and awarded the Purple Heart. After living in Clifton, NJ for thirty-four years, where he worked for Curtis- Wright as a tool maker, Werner and his wife, Ramona, retired to Little River, SC for twenty-six years then came to Norwich four years ago.
Werner enjoyed reading, bowling and fishing, but was an avid golfer. He was a member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational and of Post 189 of the American Legion.
On May 28, 1949, in Passaic, NJ, Werner married Ramona Seyffarth, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Robert Oehme and his wife, Linda, of South Plymouth; two granddaughters, Jennifer Mallozzi (Christopher) of Norwich and Jessica Posner (Justin), of Ellenville, NY and a great granddaughter, Melodie Posner, also of Ellenville. He is also survived by a sister, Eleanor LaFrance (Edgar) of Neptune, NJ and two nephews, Greg and Drew LaFrance of Neptune.
A memorial service with military honors for Werner will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the United Church of Christ First Congregational. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Werner may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
