DUANE A. MARCELLUS
EARLVILLE – Duane A. Marcellus, 84, of Route 12, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
He was born May 24, 1929 in Sauquoit, NY, one of seven children of Franklin and Essie Baker Marcellus. He started his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Sauquoit, and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1947 and then Morrisville Agricultural and Technical College. On May 23, 1953, Duane married Anne J. Hall in Waterville, a loving union of over 60 years. Duane was a dairy farmer on the family farm from 1939 to 1988, He also started Marcellus Sales in 1968 which is still operated by his family, specializing in snowmobile sales and repair as well as Amish made furniture, His favorite times were spent on camping trips with his family. He enjoyed snowmobiling and sightseeing, and was a fan of SU basketball and NASCAR.
Duane was a member of the East Hamilton United Methodist Church; a member of the Agway Board for several years, and a former Dairyman’s League Board member.
Surviving are his wife, Anne; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Keith Kolb of Earlville; grandchildren, Heather, Alyssa and Kadyanne; brothers-in-law, Stanley and Carleen Hall of Biloxi, MS; and Richard Crandall of Spring Hill, NC; many nephews, including special nephews, Jerry, Don, Mark, Doug, Mike and Jim Marcellus; many nieces, including special nieces, Joyce Stradling, Pat Polisse, Sharon Dapson and Mary Nolan; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are his friends who were like family to him, Justin and Ladonna Lilley and family of Edmeston; John and Alta Collins and family of Sherburne; and Mike DelFuoco and family. He was predeceased by a son, Gregory D. Marcellus in 1968; four sisters, Erma Watson, Velma Bethlehem, Kathleen Roberts and June LaGrecca; two brothers, Claude and Hubert Marcellus; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Crandall.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, March 7, 2014 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
