Joan Inez Herron, 74, of Norwich, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. Joan was born on February 23, 1940, daughter of the late Stanley Mott Macumber and Florence Harriet (Fenton) Macumber Hillicker, in Butternuts, NY. In 1967, Joan was married to John Herron, who predeceased her in September 1988.
Joan was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, including making outfits for dolls as well as other crafting, recently making wreaths. She was a longtime, dedicated member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter #502 in Sidney.
Joan is survived by 5 Children: Mildred Sinclair of Norwich; Tina Cowan and her husband, Clint, of Mt. Upton; Polly Sowersby and her companion, John Trottier of Mt. Upton; Jerrie Wilson and her companion, Andrew Poltz of Pennsylvania; and Robert Foster and his companion, Carol Pascocello of Norwich; 12 Grandchildren: Michael (Christy) Boise, Allen (Jennifer) Meagley, Justin (Jackie) Cowan, Jessica Lent, Heather (Paul) Slack, Bobby Leizear (Shannon Pickering), Alyssa Sowersby, Beth (Garrett) Eckert, Cassandra Wilson, Jonathon Wilson, Laurraine Foster (Bill Pierce) and Shelle Foster (Danny Boecke); 9 Siblings and their spouses: Gene and Brenda Macumber, Erna and Edward Powers, Judy and Douglas Stanton, Nancy Ward, Colleen and Bill Elliott, Karen and Charles Decker, Kevin Macumber, Eddie and Jan Macumber and Ernest Hilliker. A sister-in-law, Grace Macumber; and many great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Joan was predeceased by an infant brother, Wayne Eugene Macumber, sister, Regina Macumber, and brother, Bruce Macumber.
Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Sidney Moose Lodge, East Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. A Women of the Moose service will begin at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan’s name may be directed to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
