Jean J. Intres


Jean J. Intres, 84, of Naples, Florida, passed away on February 23, 2014 at the Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, Florida with his wife at his side. He was born in Cedar Grove, New Jersey on April 22, 1929, a son of Sophia and Lambert Intres. After high school he spent four years in the US Navy. On September 3, 1950 he married Ruth Estelle Fredericks. Jean attended New York University earning a degree in accounting and graduated summa cum laude. He worked for the accounting firm of Ernst & Young from 1952 to 1962 when he joined Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals. He held several jobs for Norwich Eaton with increasing responsibilities through the transitions to Morton-Norwich, when the family lived in the Chicago suburbs, then back to Norwich, and Procter & Gamble. He was the senior vice president at the time of his retirement in 1992.
During his many years in Norwich, Jean was an active member of his community. He was chairman of the Norwich City Planning board, chairman of the Chenango Savings and Loan, and chairman of the Chenango Memorial Hospital. He was a charter member of the Harper Forum at SUNY Binghamton and served on several advisory committees at the University. He helped organize and then served on the Chenango County’s Commission on the Future (the 2020 Commission). He served as a moderator/instructor for Leadership Chenango’s course on local government. He was presented with the Silver Beaver Service Award in 1985 by the Boy Scouts of America recognizing his volunteer service for the local three-county Scout Council.
Jean is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Intres; his sister Jennie Versteeg, Norwich, NY; his five married children, Patricia (Charles) Brown of Norwich, NY, Gary (Debbie) Intres, Glen Ellyn, IL, Richard (Nancy) Intres, Ashfield, MA, Charles (Jenny) Intres, Falcon, MO, and Catherine (Michael) Natoli, Sherburne, NY; his eight grandchildren, William (Hayley) Intres, Benjamin Intres, Rebecca (David) Whithiam, Christine Natoli, Jeffrey Natoli, Jacalyn Intres, Katelyn Intres, Alison Brown; and one great grandchild, Samuel Intres.
Jean enjoyed all parts of his life with enthusiasm, his work, his community, his retirement, and most of all his family.
Funeral services will be held February 27, 2014, in Naples, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America, and condolence messages can be sent to Ruth Intres, 3257 Benicia CT, Naples, FL 34109.
