Grace Knickerbocker


Grace M. Knickerbocker, 85, of South Main St., passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
She was born September 13, 1928 in Pharsalia, a daughter of Leon J. and Rebecca Drew Parker. She was a graduate of Cincinnatus High School and the Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. On June 6, 1948, Grace married Robert W. Knickerbocker in New Berlin. They had lived in New Berlin, Columbus and Glenfield, NY prior to settling in Earlville. Their loving union spanned 64 years until Bob predeceased her on February 2, 2013. Grace had been a secretary for the Glenfield School System until her retirement. She had a special fondness for music and enjoyed playing her piano and going to musicals. She also had a talent for making her own Christmas decorations which she shared with her family.
Grace was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Earlville/Poolville. She was a former member of the Glenfield Methodist Church, and in earlier years, she was a member of the Columbus Community Church and an adult leader to the youth group and choir.
Grace is survived by her children, Roberta (Bobbie) and Tom Gurtowski of Seattle, WA; Sue and Grant Cross of Smyrna; and Sharon and Roland Gustin, Jr. of Canastota; grandchildren, Melissa Irons of Shoreline, WA; Robert Cross of Davenport, NY; Kimberly Zewda of Renton, WA; Elizabeth Wormuth, Stephanie Gustin, Nicole Allen and Cory Gustin, all of Canastota; great-grandchildren, Venetia, Samaria, Emily, Jacob, Natalie and Bella. She was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Parker and a brother, Clarence Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 from the First United Methodist Church, Earlville.
Interment will be held in the spring in the Earlville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville on Saturday from Noon until 2:30 p.m.
