MARY A. HARVEY
OXFORD – Mary A. Harvey, 85, of Oxford passed away on February 17, 2014 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich. She was born on December 17, 1928 in Oxford a daughter of the late William and Rose (Ryan) Smith. On June 25, 1946 she married Rowland Harvey, who survives.
Besides her husband of 67 years, Rowland, she is survived by her daughter and son in law, Georgia and Jack Henzler of Norwich; her son, Michael Harvey of Oregon; her grandchildren, Heather (Rich) Chiavelli, Scott Henzler and Heidi Henzler; her great grandchildren, Ashley, Derek and Autumn and her great great grandson, Skylar; her sisters, Rose Livingston of Norwich and Joanne Bartlett of Rome, NY and her special friend, Steve Cobb. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her daughter, Peggy; her brothers, George Smith, Clifton Vallier, and Paul Vallier, and her sisters, Pauline Kramnich and Katie Eldred.
Mary was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School. She worked at Norwich Mills and Norwich Pharmacal Co. before beginning a career at GLA and then Simmonds Precision. She was a member of St. Joseph’s RC Church of Oxford. She was an avid gardener and loved working outside. She had a giving spirit and was well liked by all who knew her. Her family was very important to her and always came first. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making quilts. She and her husband were very involved with Toys for Tots. Her father was the personal valet for Buffalo Bill Cody for several years. The family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff of the emergency room and intensive care unit at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
She was also enjoyed helping Charlotte Stafford, Oxford Town and Village Historian with her work.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with Rev. Lester Smith of St. Malachy’s Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Friday from 6-8 p.m..
