Dorothy Lee


SIDNEY – Dorothy Grace (Money) Lee, 86 of Sidney passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland, Fla. where she had been a resident for the past fifteen months. 
Dorothy was born on Nov. 4, 1922, daughter of the late Percy Jay and Geneva Irene (Warner) Money in Preston. 
Dorothy graduated from Oxford Academy, class of 1941 and the New York State Agricultural and Technical Institute at Delhi in 1944. On Sept. 30, 1944, Dorothy married John Edward Lee in McDonough. He predeceased her Dec. 10, 1992. She retired from the Afton, Bainbridge-Guilford and BOCES School Systems after working over 30 years as food service manager. Dorothy was a member of the United Congregational Church of Coventryville and Sidney. She could commonly be seen helping at many church dinners in both Coventryville and Sidney. Dorothy was also an advisor for the 4-H Club, teaching food service. In her later years she volunteered at the Sidney Hospital and the Delaware Valley Humane Society. Dorothy was also very active in the Women of the Moose Chapter #502 Sidney with her longtime friend Helen Greiner, who predeceased her.
Dorothy was a longtime resident of Coventryville, in retirement she moved to Sidney and then in November 2006 she moved to Lakeland, Fla. and lived with her daughter and son-in-law. In Lakeland, she was a member of the Harvest Assembly of God Church where she was a greeter.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter: Durinda Lee Butler and her husband Tom of Lakeland, Fla.; two sons: Mark Percy Lee and his wife, Vicki of  Sidney and Terrance John Lee and his wife Susan of Hyndman, Pa.; a Foster daughter: Cheryle Verdi Cohen of Langhorne, Pa.; two grandsons: Bryan Lee and Andrew Lee; three granddaughters:  Laurinda Walls of Jacksonville, Fla.; Bethany Falkenstein of Plant City, Fla. and Liberty Libretti of Plant City, Fla.; five great grandchildren (all of Florida) and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, John, Dorothy was predeceased by three brothers: Arthur, Percy and Leslie Money, and a sister-in-law, Wilma Money.
Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. on Saturday at the funeral chapel.  Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society 101 East Main St. Sidney, NY 13838 or to the Boys and Girls Club 21 Liberty St. #13 Sidney, NY 13838.
