MICHAEL J. WASSEL
SMYRNA – Michael J. Wassel, 76, of East Main St., passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich.
He was born July 3, 1937 in Lincoln, PA, a son of Michael and Elizabeth Fecak Wassel and received his education in local schools. On April 2, 1972, Michael married Barbara A. Follett in Connellsville, PA. He had worked at the Gladding Corporation in S. Otselic and then the NYS Dept. of Transportation until his retirement. He was also a self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker. Michael was a member of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. He was a skilled woodworker and a gifted artist.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; his children, Kim and Roger McCormick, and Timothy Wassel, all of Oneida; Michael, Jr. and Kristin Wassel of Macungie, PA; step-children, Carlton and Alexis Jaquay of Norwich; Deborah Lint and Dave of Connellsville, PA; Celia and Leslie White of Smyrna; Glenn and Karen Jaquay of Cassville; Heidi and James Moore of Smyrna; sisters, Maryann Lugo of NV and Anna Mae Sisco of McKeesport, PA; an aunt, Helen Curro of Oneida; 5 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren,16 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Michael V. Wassel; four grandchildren, Valarie Jaquay, John Moore, Sylvanis Moore and James Moore; and a great-grandchild, Carlton Perry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, February 8, 2014 from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Spring interment will be in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
