Edith Mummery Mabon


Edith Mummery Mabon of the Chenango Valley Home, Norwich, NY, formerly of Hamilton and Morrisville died December 3, 2013 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with family at her side.
Born January 29, 1923 in Vernon Center the third child of Ruth and Arthur Mummery, she graduated from Vernon High School, Plattsburg State Teachers College with a BS in Home Economics Education, Syracuse University with a MS and attended Cornell University where she completed course work to meet academic requirements to become a member of the American Dietetic Association. She became a registered Dietitian. Morrisville Ag & Tech was able to start their Dietetic Technician Program, since the Director of the program had to be a registered dietitian and Edith held that position. She belonged to the New York Dietetic Association and American Dietetic Association. She was the editor of a newsletter published by NYS Nutrition Council.
In 1954 she married Robert G. Mabon of Fraser. They resided on the family farm until 1967 when they moved to Morrisville. She taught in public schools for 6 years and at SUNY Delhi 15 years and SUNY Morrisville for 18 years. She served as Chairperson of the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Food Management Division at Morriville for 13 years. Edith retired in 1985.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Morrisville Wednesday Club serving as president of both. She was also active in The Tourist Club, Friends of the Morrisville Library, Morrisville Community Church/Faith Circle.
Church has always been important to Edith. She was baptized and a member of the Knoxboro Methodist Episcopal Church, member of the Delhi Methodist Church, DeLancey United Presbyterian Church and Morrisville Community Church.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Charlotte Mummery VerPlank and brother Glenn Mummery and is survived by nieces Diane Dugan (Peter) of Rochester, Ellen Mummery Eccleston (Bruce) of Underhill Center, Vermont, Joyce Mummery Lawson(Craig) of Norwich and a nephew Douglas VerPlank of Marion, NY. Grand-nieces include, Colleen Dugan, Gwenn Eccleston Shimizu, Nicole and Danielle VerPlank. Grand-nephews include Daren Dugan, Chad Eccleston, Marc and Tom Lawson; great-great nieces include Elizabeth(Ellie) and Lindsey Lawson and great-great nephews Tanner and James Lawson.
Services for Edith will take place at the convenience of the family in the spring. Burial will be in the Bovina Cemetery, Bovina Center, NY. Donations may be made in Edith's memory to the charity of one’s choice.
