Josephine Harrington


NORWICH – Josephine L. Harrington, 65, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Norwich in January of 1944, Josephine was the daughter of Philip and Pearl Smith Jackson. She attended school in Oxford and worked in her early years for the Norwich Knitting Mill. Later she was employed by Mid-York Press, working on the lines and as a label inspector. A hard-working and very family-oriented lady who loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and many close friends, Josephine's other passion was the Relay for Life, on whose behalf she spent many hours on the phone raising money for the cause.
Josephine is survived by her daughters: Colleen Carpenter, Beth Brown and husband Blake, and Jodi Wessels, all of Norwich; by her sisters: Virginia Keech of Norwich, Shirley Canham and husband Dick of Nevada, Marjorie Osness of Tennessee, and Annie Wood of McDonough; and her brother, Lewis Jackson of McDonough. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan Harrington, Justin Carpenter, Benjamin, Brian, and Brandon Wightman, Bailey Brown, and Grant, Seth and Trent Wessels; and great granddaughters Gabrielle and Olivia. She was predeceased by her sisters, Doris Fairbanks, Ellen Meade, and Helen MacLaury.
Funeral services for Josephine will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Alien Carpenter, pastor of the First Baptist Church of New Berlin, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from noon until the service at 2 p.m.
