Matthew Phinney


GREENE – Matthew H. Phinney, 37, of Greene and formerly of Norwich, passed away early Friday evening, July 3, 2009, at the Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
Matthew was born in April of 1972 in Norwich, the son of Cheryl Donnelly Phinney Wilson and Duane Phinney. He grew up in Norwich and attended the Norwich schools. While living in Norwich he worked as a cook at Ossie’s Restaurant. For the past 13 years, he had made his home in Greene where he was employed by Greene Technologies as a welder. A headstrong but kind-hearted person who always maintained a sociable attitude, Matthew would always let people know how he felt. He was a family oriented man, loved food, and liked to cook. Talented with the guitar, he loved music and enjoyed jamming with his friends.
Matthew is survived by his mother and step-father Cheryl Donnelly Wilson and David Wilson of Greene; his fiancee, Dara Fosgate also of Greene; his brothers, Duane Phinney and his wife Marie of Fort Collins, Colorado and Eric Phinney and his wife Theresa of Oxford; and his step-brothers, Dustin Wilson of Sidney and Bret Wilson of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are his special nieces and nephew, Morgan and Megan Phinney and Taylor Phinney along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Matthew was predeceased by his step-brother Shawn E. Wilson.
There will be a time for Matthew’s family and friends to gather on Friday, July 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. There will be no formal services.
Matthew will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
