Robert Hammons


NORWICH – Robert E. Hammons, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at his home in Port Orange, Fla.
Born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Robert was raised on a ranch in Casper, Wyoming by his aunt and uncle, Oren and Clara Blauer. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wyoming and his law degree at the Southern California School of Law in San Diego, California.
Robert considered Norwich to be his home and was an active member of the community for 27 years. His legal career landed him in corporate law as Corporate Legal Council for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals. His knowledge of law and business, coupled with his devotion to the future of Norwich, subsequently found him in the position of Director of Economic Development for Chenango County.
As a member of the United Church of Christ he served as a trustee. He also served the community as a member and past president for the Norwich Rotary Club.
Robert is survived by his children; sons, Robert Jr. and Scott; daughter, Darcy and granddaughters Rochelle and Renee.
Family and friends will celebrate Bob’s life in a memorial service at the United Church of Christ in Norwich, 11 West Main Street, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
