Paul Nower

EARLVILLE – Paul S. Nower, 77, of Earlville, was stricken at home on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, and passed away unexpectedly at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
He was born in Oneida on Dec. 25, 1931, a son of the late Clifford and Virginia Nower. He lived in Earlville all his life. He was a graduate of Earlville High School and Morrisville College. He married Pauline Howlett on September 23, 1949 in the Bouckville United Methodist Church. Paul was a strong family man and loved raising his family on the home farm, Nowerland Farms. At Nowerland Farms, Paul and his family bred 54 Gold Medal Dams and 55 Dams of Merit and was awarded the Progressive Breeder Registry Award for 24 years. In addition, he was awarded the coveted New York Holstein Master Breeder Award in 1989. Nowerland Farms sold many bulls into A.I. with the most popular being “Nowerland Trifecta.” Nowerland also sold breeding stock cattle to Japan, Argentina, and Mexico. In his later years at Nowerland Farms, Paul sold semen for Sire Power. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of breeding cattle with fellow dairy farmers. The dairy sold in 2001, at which time Paul became more focused on breeding Standardbred race horses. Paul and Pauline spent their retirement traveling throughout New York State watching their horses race.
In addition to Paul’s love for farming, he was involved in many organizations. He was an instrumental member of the Sherburne-Earlville School Board as well as a member of the Holstein Association and Harness Racing Association. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Earlville.
Paul’s passion for animals and the farm life was instilled indefinitely into his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline; and four children, Cynthia (Richard) Lewis, Charles (Denise) Nower, Alan Nower, and Nancy (Stephen) Holmes; grandchildren, Clarissa (Christopher) Acompora, Chadwick (Hannah) Nower, Amanda Cooley, Hana Nower, Cassandra Lewis, Gregory (Sarah) Cooley, Paul Cooley, Elizabeth Lewis, and Janelle Nower; great grandchildren, Caitlyn & Caley Sophia Acompora; brother Floyd (Barbara) Nower; beloved life long family member Elwyn Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
