Mary Mccollough


NORWICH – Mary B. McCollough, 69, of Hayes Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Gilmour Health Care Facility.
Born Oct. 15, 1939 in Corning, Mary was the daughter of Robert and Helen (Carr) Beyea. She graduated from Corning High School and Cortland State Teachers College and began teaching in South Huntington, Long Island. She then taught in the elementary grades in Horseheads and Oriskany before moving to Norwich, where she retired in 1994 after teaching in both Gibson and Perry Browne Schools.
Mary was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. She also loved to read and spend time in her garden. She was an active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was chairperson of the Membership Committee. She was also a member of the NYS and Chenango County Retired Teachers Association.
On June 30, 1962, in Corning, Mary married her loving husband, Michael McCollough, who survives. She is also survived by her sons, Jeffrey McCollough and his wife, Kristin of Chenango Bridge and Douglas McCollough of Norwich; her grandchildren, Erin McCollough of Chenango Bridge, Noah McCollough and Samuel Egolf, both of Sacramento, Calif. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Bates.
A memorial service for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14 at the Broad Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Gilmour Health Care Facility for the wonderful care given Mary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Broad Street United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
