John Mancini


SHERBURNE – John T. Mancini, 59, of Billings Road in Sherburne, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2009.
 Born Aug. 19, 1949 in Buffalo, John was the son of Dominic and Martina (Duke) Mancini.  He lived in Norwich for most of his life where he owned and operated Plaza Optical.
He was a natural athlete excelling in every sport he participated in.  He had several 300 games in bowling and 2 holes-in-one in golf.  John was one of the best fast-pitch softball pitchers in New York State during the 1970s and early 80s.  He was a great entertainer who always had a story to tell.  Among his hobbies were fishing, especially with his best friend, Michael Smith and listening to classic rock music, watching movies and playing golf with his good friends.
John is survived by his children, Emily Mancini of Binghamton and Michael Mancini of Charleston, S.C.; his fiancée, Janice ‘Eunice’ Yerton, of Sherburne and her two children, Cameron and Jesse; his parents, Dominic and Martina Mancini of Buffalo; the mother of his children, Veronica Schofield, of Binghamton; his brother William Mancini and his wife, Beverly of Buffalo and two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and John Reinard of Buffalo and Mary Ann and Brian Barry of Houston, Texas.  John is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service for John will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at the Wilson Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at Taylor’s Country House on State Route 320 on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Mid-State Region, 59 Court Street, 4th Floor, Binghamton, NY  13901.
