Sonja Benedict


NORWICH – Sonja N. Benedict, 67, of Park St., formerly of Sherburne, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Wilson Regional Medical Center, Johnson City.
She was born Feb. 26, 1942 in Richfield Springs, a daughter of Hiram and Winifred Wheeler Reynolds. Her family moved to the Clinton area, where Sonja graduated from Clinton High School. On Nov. 11, 1961 in Deansboro she was united in marriage to Alfred R. Benedict. Mr. Benedict predeceased her on Oct. 19, 2008.
Mrs. Benedict was a dairy farmer’s wife who worked along with her husband on the farm. In later years when Mr. Benedict began work for the Syracuse Newspaper she also continued to assist him. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She received great joy and pleasure spending time with her grandchildren. Sonja was a member of the Columbus Community Church.
Surviving are her daughter Roberta Weymouth and her companion Nathan Hodge of Sherburne; her grandchildren, Kaitlin Weymouth of Norwich and Alfred Weymouth of Earlville; two sisters, Bonita Weaver of Oriskany Falls and Seena Pughe of Waterville; two brothers, Bruce Reynolds of Oriskany Falls and Charles Reynolds of Winchester, Va.; and also many nieces, nephews and in-laws
She was predeceased by an infant son and daughter.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home 10 S. Main St. Sherburne. Interment will be in the S. Brookfield Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call on hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
