Janette Young


SHERBURNE – Janette “Nettie” Graham Young, 80, formerly of Route 12, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Hamilton.
She was born June 7, 1928 in Smyrna, a daughter of Martin L. and Ruth Alling Symonds and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. Janette married John S. Graham on Jan. 1, 1946 in Smyrna. He predeceased her in 1973. Nettie was a hard worker who actively participated in the operation of their dairy farm prior to John’s death. She married Clyde Young on Dec. 7, 1974 in Hamilton, and they operated Young’s Produce in North Norwich until ill health forced them to retire. Jeanette was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde; a daughter, Janice Ferris of Earlville; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Cynthia Graham of Georgetown; two sisters, Bernice McNeil of Norwich and Ruth Hawkins of Ohio; a brother, David Symonds of Sherburne; her grandchildren, John and Gabrielle Graham, Sidney and Teresa Graham and Katie Graham; two sisters-in-law, Mary Symonds of Norwich and Mary Grace Jensen of Hamilton; Clyde’s family; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Three brothers, Jessie Symonds, Floyd Symonds and Gordon Symonds, all predeceased her.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by burial in the Willcox Cemetery, Town of Smyrna.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Nettie’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility for the excellent care given to her.
