Clara Utter


NORWICH – Clara Maude Utter, “Midge,” 69, of Norwich, passed away Thursday evening, May 28, 2009, at her home with the family she loved by her side.
Born in Georgetown in October of 1939 and raised on the family farm, Midge was the daughter of Howard and Ina Wilcox. She attended grade school in South Otselic and Cincinnatus and was a 1957 graduate of the Norwich High School. Midge lived in Pennsylvania for a time and, while there, spent some years as Postmaster of the Cherryville, Pa., post office. Following her return to the Norwich area, she owned and operated her own business, Utterly Crystals, and also worked for the Rite Aid drug store.
On Aug. 28, 1988, Midge married Richard Utter, who survives. She is also survived by her children: Donald Bunce and wife Kim of Northampton, Pa., Robin Bunce and fiancee Michele and Ramar Bunce and wife Michele, all of Northampton, Bunni Laigaie and husband Bob of Midlothian, Va., Paul Utter and Linda Jones of Norwich, Scott Utter and Chris Babcock of Norwich, Frank Utter of Arizona, Robert Ardle Jr. of Pennsylvania and Cassandra Langstaff of Germany. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, aunts, uncle, and cousins, and her close friend., Colleen Dunstan of California. Midge was predeceased by her children, Terri Bunce and Michael Utter.
Memorial services for Midge will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with Paul Utter and Audrey Aiken officiating. Interment will follow in the J.D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Midge’s family asks that memorial contributions be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the Norwich Fire Dept. Ladies’ Auxiliary, 31 East Main St., Norwich, NY 13815.
